Chapter 985, Tinker AFB OK, Article by Lisa Muth (Veteran, TSgt), Chief Master Sergeant (Ret) James “Jim” Lokovic, past Deputy Executive Director and Director of Military and Government Relations for the Air Force Sergeants Association, visited Tinker Air Force Base on October 13, 2011. He brought with him the AFSA Legislative platform and ensured all whom he came into contact with knew the platform. He spoke at four forums throughout the day and ended his visit with a meeting at the Tinker Airman Leadership School. All participants, totaling over 100 attendees, gained a better understanding of what the Air Force Sergeants Association does and its importance to all members of the Armed Forces. The knowledge of this career AFSA Airman was evident during his visit. Chapter 985 President MSgt (Ret) Terry Turner presented Chief Lokovic with a memento for the dedicated service he has provided for our force and for taking time from his busy schedule to be with Tinker “A”irman.

AD Airmen, Where Are You?

Is AFSA a victim of its own success?

Welcome from the Division 89 President

dale.jpgWelcome and thanks for visiting our Division 89 Website. If you're wondering about our numeric designation, we successfully merged two divisions May 2, 2009. It's working great for us, thanks to our leadership and positive members. We now encompass 10 states; Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. We currently have 15 AFSA and 4 Auxiliary chapters. Links to their President and websites are shown on the "Chapters" pull-down.

Chapters that have an active base in their vicinity work with the base leadership to support awards programs, family support centers, Airman Leadership Schools, First Term Airmen Centers, Honor Guard and other programs needing recognition and outreach assistance. Our other Chapters address their attention more to supporting veterans programs, memorials and also of course outreach/humanitarian needs. All chapters focus on recognizing deserving students in Junior AFROTC programs in local high schools and/or Civil Air Patrol (CAP) by presenting certificates and achievement medals. We're all volunteers in the helping each other business, or as we refer to it, "taking care of our own." Division 89 AFSA members are always volunteering to help their communities at walk-a-thons, Habitat for Humanity, homeless shelters, during disasters or just heeding a call to help.

I am excited about the role our division performs to increase visibility at their locales for this most worthy organization that promotes and protects benefits that enhance the quality of life for our total enlisted force and their families; "The Voice of the Enlisted!" Division 89 members excel in this purpose, thereby not only do they "talk the talk, they walk the walk!" Thus, we all benefit. If you are not a member, please help us to help you by being a part of this team. Contact your local chapter or myself and join without delay.

I'm always looking for comments or suggestions on how to make it better, so let me hear from you.

DALE C. LUTZEN, SMSgt, USAF (Ret)
President, AFSA Division 89
