Friends of AFSA,
Today as we pause with family & friends, it is important that we remember and honor the true symbol of American freedom--our Flag. Please take a moment and read this AFSA'lutely great words penned by legendary songwriter Johnny Cash.
"That Ragged Old Flag"
I walked through a county courthouse square On a park bench, an old man was sittin there. I said, "Your court house is kinda run down, He said, "No, it will do for our little town". I said "your old flag pole kinda leaned a little bit, And that’s a ragged old flag you got hanging on it". He said "have a seat", so I sat down, He said, "is this your first visit to our little town" I said, "I think it is" He said "I don’t like to brag, but we’re kinda proud of "That Ragged Old Flag"
As an “AFSA Leader” who operates at the Chapter, Division, and International level, I frequently become bothered when others charged with leadership positions implement self-imposed limitations.
About a year ago, I watched a phenomenal movie called “The Bucket List”.
The poet William Faulkner coined the phrase, “The Man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones”. This passage, for what it is worth basically states that little things make all the difference. How does this relate to the AFSA vision? Simply, each one of us has the potential to make change—to make a difference.
